24 hours of sexy, sexy playwriting later...
September 21, 2003, 2:33 pm

From 10:00pm Friday night to 10:00pm last night, I participated in the best creative experience EVER.

My friends over at Company 13 and the Top Floor host a show called "The 24 Hour Experiment" (I participated in the last one as well) where a bunch of random people show up, bring things to use as props, decide on a theme, write six new plays, start rehearsing, run tech, and then perform them for a paying audience...ALL IN 24 HOURS!

I was lucky enough to write with my sister Christina, who rocked the house with an Irish accent, and Shea (of Mike's girlfriend fame). Upon seeing a group of leis on the table, I decided to write about the secret lives of Hawaiian plane greeters; Shea said, "Oh yeah, but what if they were stationed in hell."

Oh my God. Creative juices flowing, we wrote what many considered to be very, very funny piece. Girl power!

One rule I liked better about this experience was the night-stage-manager, a very welcome addition made in my good buddy and phenomenal writer/actor S-M-R. He just made everything seem much, much smoother and easier and laid-back, which is hard to do in a situation with a bunch of caffeinated creative crazies trying to write.

Christina and I acted in the last play; I was the stern DA and she was a flirtacious judge as I was cross-examining a sexy, sexy man. It was hilarious and lots of fun to do. There's nothing quite like faking an orgasm and shouting "FUCK!" in front of your mom, your aunt, and all your friends' parents.

Anyway, Christina told me it was probably the best experience of her life, and I'd have to say it created a definite surge in my confidence as a performer and a writer...not to mention a large hole in my sleep pattern. Whooo.
