snow day is cancelled
February 12, 2006, 4:22 pm

I don't know what is worse: getting an inch of snow and know that you won't be getting out of a school day or getting 10 inches of snow and sadly recognizing that school will most definitely be in session the next day.

Why couldn't this have waited for 24 hours?

It's not that I'm greedy, or horribly unhappy in my job that I want a day off (especially since I have a three-day week next week and two four-day weeks the following two), it's just that when everything is built up so much, and you're planning on having that day to do laundry or whatever, and you wake up and the world is a glorious winter wonderland that should only be spent in bed with hot chocolate and a good book (The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova; you do not have to like vampires or that realm of fiction to be fascinated, because I really don't care for the type...this book is awesome!) and a cuddly dog or two and a cuddly significant other that may or may not want a backscratch, and you figure, What the hell? I can use tomorrow for "real" things, today is for nice things, and then it's 4:30p.m. and the roads are clear, and your car is not, and the snow is not exactly as high as it was this morning, or as foreboding, and it's supposed to be fine during tomorrow's commute, and your head hurts because you're trying to grade all the papers you put off like a kid who doesn't do her homework the night of a snowstorm, only to find out that she has school.

Bummer.
