heat wave
August 16, 2002, 8:40 pm

Forty-one people have died this summer in Baltimore due to heat-related illness.

Forty-one people have DIED because of the heat.

How does someone get to the point that they don't recognize that they're getting sick by being outside? These people weren't homeless or otherwise forced to stay outside: they were people with apartments and townhomes with at least access to ice and water if not air conditioning.

Perhaps they were all trying out for the high school soccer team?

I was trained to recognize heat exhaustion and heat stroke; both are pretty scary. My girls get about 10 water breaks in a 3 hour practice period.

Heat-related deaths...does this happen in Las Vegas?
